Manatee Sightseeing Season in Full Swing
When bay water temperatures drop in the fall and winter months, manatees rely on the warm-water outfalls from local power plants, such as the Tampa Electric Company plant at Big Bend. Just a short ride away from your Tampa Bay Gulfstream Club location, this area hosts the biggest wintertime manatee population anywhere in Tampa Bay, at over 300 manatees on average. The manatees use the deepwater basins around the Hillsboro Bay area to forage and can be seen throughout the bay all winter.
Soak Up the Sun at Pine Key
Pine Key, or Beer Can Island as it’s also affectionally known as, is a favorite hidden gem of many Gulfstream members. It sits approximately 2.5 miles west of the small town of Apollo Beach, but visiting there is like being transported to a remote and magical island oasis. The center of the island is covered in various forms of trees, including Australian Pine trees and the beaches have nice white sand.
Please note: Pine Key Island is a beautiful but fragile ecosystem! Pack out what you pack in and do not litter or leave any trash behind.
Grab Some Lunch at the Hula Bay Club
Hula Bay Club neighbors our Tampa Club making it the perfect spot to start or end your day! Gulfstream Boat Club Members can grab everything they need for a fun lunch on the water (we love the fresh crab cakes!) After your fun-filled family day in Tampa Bay, kick back on their deck and take in the sunset with a tasty app and refreshing beverage.
You’ll find live music playing 6 days a week at Duke’s Island Bar downstairs. The retired surfers bar is the place to be for a family day in Tampa when the breeze kicks in. You might even spot a pod of dolphins swimming around the docks down below!
