Indulge in some winter fun in the sun, but don’t catch yourself unprepared! Sometimes it can be hard to know what to pack for the perfect Florida winter vacation, so we’ve created this must-have list of What to Pack for your Florida Vacation, and other important Florida winter travel do’s and don’ts.
Check the weather
If you’re planning a winter vacation to your favorite Gulfstream Boat Club location, you’ll want to keep in mind that different parts of the state have different weather. A visit to the middle of the state may be a bit warmer, whereas you can expect breezy days at the coast. You’ll want to pack for daytime temperatures of mid to low 70s. We do still get “cold snaps” in Florida, it’s all relative, so check the weather forecast before you depart.
Pack t shirts and tanks, light layers like sun shirts or windbreakers, dresses, lightweight shorts, swimsuits and cover ups
Don’t underestimate the sun.
Just because you had a deep tan all summer long doesn’t mean you won’t burn in the Florida sun this winter. Even if the temps are a little cooler, it’s still possible to get too much sunIt’s easy to get a false sense of relief from the sun when air temperatures are cooler during Florida winters, but experts caution that it’s just as important to protect skin from the sun during the winter months as it is during other times of the year. Water and sun are also two of the most common culprits of sunburned skin. Both are highly reflective surfaces that can increase the amount of damage the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays have on unprotected skin. Be sure to reapply your sunscreen throughout the day to stay protected!
Florida Winter Vacation Miscellaneous Musts
The best vacation begins with a proper packing, and we have you covered with some items you might not have considered! Check out these miscellaneous must-haves to pack for the best boat day and winter vacation.
Long Sleeve SPF Shirt
An SPF long sleeve shirt is a wonderful clothing item to wear while out on the boat. They absorb or block harmful UV radiation and remain one of the most effective forms of protection against sun burn. They’re a necessity when planning to spend a day on the water. Need a long sleeve? Ask your Member Services team for one!
Nonslip Boat Shoes
Boat shoes are about function because wet feet can be the difference between a happy angler and a less than great boat day. The best boat shoes for fishing have three requirements: traction, cushion, and water management. Grab a pair for everyone in the family!
Waterproof Phone Case
Taking the boat out for a cruise can potentially spell disaster if your phone happens to join in on the water activities. Protecting your devices from water damage should be a top priority, and waterproof phone cases make that easy! Your phone’s touchscreen and buttons are still accessible and usable while it’s sealed inside, and you can even use the front and back cameras!
Beach Bag with Cooler
A beach bag is an obvious essential, but one with a cooler is next-level awesome. Look for one with plenty of beach item storage, plus enough room for drinks and snacks to keep you refreshed while you’re having fun in the sun!
Insulated Water Bottle
An insulated water bottle is the perfect essential to pack for Florida because you will want cold water at all times! Don’t buy water bottles during your trip, buy them in advance and pack them instead! This saves the earth and keeps your water cold! Insulated water bottles are perfect for the whole family on the boat during your Florida winter vacation.
Polarized Sunglasses
Even if you don’t typically wear sunglasses where you live, you need to buy a pair for Florida! Sunglasses are an essential part of your Florida winter vacation packing list because they protect your eyes from sun damage. If you are looking for the best protection possible, consider buying a pair of polarized sunglasses for maximum protection.
