Beyond the Palm Beach Boat Club

Suggested activities for Palm Beach Boat Club Members and family.

You’re a member of Gulfstream Boat Club with friends and family visiting Palm Beach County. You’ll spend a glorious day—or two—on a Gulfstream Boat Club fishing excursion or sunset cruise. But what are some other activities around Palm Beach that boat club members enjoy?

Here are a few activities and pastimes around the Palm Beach area to keep your house guests busy and happy! Some of these sights are old favorites, but there are always new attractions every season, so read on for a variety of fun ideas.

Cruise along the Intracoastal:

A Gulfstream Boat Club cruise up the Intracoastal is sure to please guests of any age. Without a doubt, an activity our Palm Beach Boat Club members can indulge the family with. But, there are plenty of other attractions in Palm Beach that boat enthusiasts would enjoy:

Manatee Lagoon:

Manatee Lagoon is a new, FREE Palm Beach County educational attraction with a dedicated area for viewing manatees up close. The 16,000-square-foot center features engaging, hands-on exhibits for visitors to learn all about these endangered and unique creatures as well as the natural wonders of the surrounding Lake Worth Lagoon. On cold winter days, the facility’s observation deck is the ideal spot to view manatee herds basking in the warm-water outflows from Florida Power & Light Company’s adjacent Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center. You can’t dock a boat there, but it is a short drive from Gulfstream Boat Club’s two Boynton Beach locations.

Lake Trail:

The Lake Trail is a walking and biking path that runs along the island of Palm Beach’s western side. With Palm Beach homes and mansions on one side, and views of boats on the water on the other, it’s one of the most scenic spots in Florida. The Lake Trail is about five and half miles long, and is a great introduction to the unique homes, roads, and attractions of Palm Beach. Here’s a good guide.

Museums:

Not only does the Palm Beach area feature art galleries and public art works, but there are several museums as well. If your visitors got a little sunburned on the boat, or the weather’s not seaworthy, they might enjoy these indoor attractions:

Henry Morrison Flagler Museum:

The Henry Morrison Flagler Museum is a palace-like home designed and built by the man who brought Palm Beach to life, a businessman and oil tycoon. The white marble steps, towering columns, and opulent decor are reminiscent of a European palace. “Whitehall” was a wedding gift to Flagler’s third bride, Mary Lily Kenan. Tours of the home are available several times a day.

The Norton Museum:

Located in West Palm Beach, the Norton Museum of Art was founded in 1941 by Ralph Hubbard Norton and his wife, Elizabeth Calhoun Norton. The Nortons were actively interested in fine arts and developed a sizable collection of paintings and sculpture. The Museum Collection consists of approximately 7,000 works of art concentrated in the following departments: European, American, Chinese, Contemporary, and Photography.

Society of the Four Arts:

Back on the island of Palm Beach, the Society of the Four Arts (Art, Music, Drama, Literature) is one of the area’s most unique cultural destinations. Check their list of events or walk in the Botanical or Sculpture Gardens. There’s even a Children’s Library.

The Royal Poinciana Plaza is the hottest shopping and dining destination in Palm Beach this season.

Shopping and Restaurants around Palm Beach:

Palm Beach Boat club members will be happy to know that the shopping and restaurant options in the Palm Beach area just get more and more plentiful and exciting.

Of course there is historic Worth Avenue, where luxury shops and high-end restaurants line the street and “vias.” City Place in West Palm offers casual shopping, a movie theater, and restaurants.

And don’t miss two new attractions this season: the massive Restoration Hardware with its popular restaurant, RH Rooftop; and the newly revitalized Royal Poinciana Plaza, which is just buzzing with activity in its shops, restaurants, and other attractions seven days a week.

Boating will always be our favorite way to spend a day in Palm Beach. But if you can’t live by boat club alone, visit some of the area’s endlessly changing on-land attractions!
