Looking for some Date Ideas? The weather is perfect in South Florida right now; so how about a unique and unforgettable fishing date for Valentine’s Day? Forget a stuffy restaurant or a dark movie theater. Fishing dates allow you to share your love of the water with your partner, and show them Delray Beach from a new perspective. Plus, you get to show off your fishing smarts!
According to a survey of the one-third of couples who have never been fishing or boating on a date, sixty percent of women and fifty percent of men would be interested in giving it a try. So let’s get this party started.
Need some help coming up with fishing date ideas? Gulfstream Boat Club has put our own Intracoastal spin on some tips from TakeMeFishing.org; and we’ve even got an indoor suggestion if the weather’s not great!
1. Fishing Cruise Date Idea
Let GBC help you plan a day trip to Boca or Jupiter, or closer to home in Delray Beach, Palm Beach, or Boynton Beach. How about a cruise from our Delray Beach location to one of the fishing spots around the Boynton Inlet? We can help out with providing a bottle of champagne, ice, or ideas on where to grab a delicious picnic lunch. If you’re in the mood for someone else to do the work, take the boat to a dockside restaurant like Deck 84, Old Key Lime House, or Seasons 52. (For our full list of fave dockside restaurants, click here!)
2. Take a fishing lesson together.
Our captains are all expert licensed fishermen, and a couples lesson is a great way to have some laughs and learn a new skill. With their knowledge of Palm Beach County’s best fishing spots, your captain will do his best to assure that you don’t come home empty handed.
3. Enjoy a fun day trip to Miami.
The Miami International Boat Show takes place over Valentine’s Day weekend at the Miami Marine Stadium Park and Basin (February 15 through February 19). Lots of GBC’s boat manufacturers have their latest models on display.
4. Fish Cooking Date.
Weather’s not cooperating? How about a fish cooking date? With classes like Sushi 101 and Great Seafood at Home, Publix’s Aprons Cooking School in Boca is a great place to start! They’ve got frequent classes seven days a week, and the chefs make it lively, informative, and delicious. A great Date Idea
5. Gulfstream Boat Club Gift Certificate.
If you like any of these Date ideas but you’re not sure what to plan or when to plan it, how about a Gulfstream Boat Club gift certificate as the ultimate out-of-the-box Valentine’s Day gift? Our gift certificates are available in any denomination, and can used at our Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, and South Palm Beach locations.
To us, there’s no better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than on the water, with your loved one holding one hand and a fishing rod in the other. Learn more about fishing dates at Gulfstream Boat Club at 561.865.7797.
Boating with Dogs: Planning for a Dog-Friendly Boat Cruise
Boating with dogs is one of our favorite activities. If you’ve got a canine member of the family, we’re sure you’ve been tempted to bring him along on your weekend boat cruise! We welcome dogs at GBC. Dogs love to be included in the family outings, and most are not afraid of the water and are natural swimmers.
But boating with dogs takes a little planning and forethought. The weather in South Florida can be hot and unpredictable, and much as you would take precautions for children aboard, Gulfstream Boat Club can recommend certain steps you can take to make your dog’s time aboard safe, comfortable, and successful.
Here are six tips for preparing to successfully spend the day with your dog on a boat:
Buy a dog life preserver. Though most South Florida dogs are strong swimmers, and used to the water, once out at sea you could encounter currents, rough weather, or waves. Your dog could fatigue quickly if he falls overboard. It’s also easier with a life preserver to get hold of him and pull him aboard should he fall off the boat; grabbing his collar is never a good idea. Most pet stores, pet retail websites, and Amazon offer dog life preservers of every size and price point. Choose a bright color so it’s easier to spot in the water. Take the life preserver for a trial run; make sure it’s comfortable and fits well, and that he’s used to it before the big day. If you need suggestions on which to buy, give us a call at GBC.
Make sure your dog has ID! Many dogs have an ID microchip implanted, which is helpful if you are separated for any reason. His collar ID tag probably has your phone number, but you might even want to add a second land-based phone number as well, just in case.
Have a plan if your dog goes overboard. A life preserver is part one of this action plan; but you’ll also want to think about what steps to take: cut the engine, call him to the ladder; have a DDW (Designated Doggie Watcher) who is always keeping an eye on his whereabouts once at sea. Notice which areas of the boat get slippery. Again, you can practice boating with dogs before your next boat cruise in a pool. Have him swim to you or to the ladder.
Visit the boat with your pet prior to your trip. Stop by Marina Delray before your next GBC boat cruise with your dog and we’d be happy to let him walk around the boat while it’s docked. We can even turn it on, so he gets used to the engine vibration and noise. Letting your dog get acquainted with the boat and the marina before going out on the water is a great idea, and will make him more comfortable when the big day comes. Make sure there’s enough room in the shade for him to sit comfortably.
Hydrate your dog. If you’re going to be out boating in the sun all day, make sure your dog has had plenty to drink before coming aboard—and pack plenty more for the trip. Dogs get overheated easily. You may even want to purchase a no-spill dog bowl to bring on board. A sports bottle can also be handy for squirting water into his mouth.
Consider packing a few extra supplies for his comfort. Does your dog get motion sickness? If so, consult your veterinarian about medication. Purchase a few dog first-aid supplies as well; here is a handy checklist for your kit.
Congratulations; now you’re ready to combine your two favorite passions: boating, and spending time with your dog! Gulfstream Boat Club has several more tips for once you’re on board. Stay tuned for Part Two of our “Guide to Boating with Dogs.”

No need to ask Siri: Here’s GBC’s list of “Best Take-out Near Me”
There is only one thing that we at Gulfstream Boat Club love more than boating and fishing, and that is EATING. And if we can combine our three favorite activities, all the better!
Below is our list of restaurants, bakeries, and best take-out spots that can help you and your party with a packable picnic breakfast, lunch, or dinner for your boat cruise or fishing charter. Many of them are the small businesses that Delray Beach and Palm Beach County are known for (and then, of course, there’s Publix!). When you stop in to order your mouthwatering meal, let them know that GBC sent you!
Best take-out near me: Delray Beach
Marianne’s Gourmet Shop: A neighborhood favorite since 1998, Marianne’s is within walking distance of our location at Marina Delray. We could not live without it. Call ahead or just stop in to order sandwiches, salads, pastas, and more. They have a large selection of homemade frozen foods—and don’t leave without a few of their famous chocolate chip cookies for your trip.
The French Bakery & Café is located less than a mile from our Delray location, at the corner of George Bush Blvd and Federal Highway. The smells and sights of a traditional French bakery are irresistible. Artisanal breads and pastries, sandwiches, and other treats are homemade fresh every day. Try their gourmet iced teas and delicious raspberry white chocolate croissants (hope it makes it to the boat!).
Surf Shack’s Subs and Smoothies is a GBC captain favorite. It’s south of our location by a few miles, but their healthy smoothies, amazing acai bowls, and famous subs, wraps and sandwiches are worth the trip. Or call ahead and they’ll deliver your order to GBC!
Publix: It’s fast, it’s fresh, and it’s convenient. There’s nothing not delicious about “Pub subs.” Pick up your drinks, salads, and water as well at the location just a few blocks from GBC. And you can order ahead from the deli online.
Best take-out near me: Boynton Beach
Our Boynton Beach location is at the Two Georges Marina, which is adjacent to Two Georges waterfront restaurant. If you don’t have time for lunch or dinner after your boat ride, try these nearby places for takeout to take ON the boat:
Tsunami Subs and Wraps is located at Woolbright Road and Federal Highway. Try your sandwich “Tsunami style”: with onion, lettuce, tomato, vinegar, oil, and special spices.
Seaside Deli and Market is a few miles south from our Boynton Beach location on A1A. It’s a great place to grab anything from breakfast sandwiches to beer before a long and satisfying day on the water.
Nomad Surf Juice & Coffee is new and right next door to Seaside Deli! The area’s favorite surf shop now has a fresh juice truck on the weekends; they’ve got super fresh smoothies, acai bowls, and more.
Best take-out near me: Palm Beach
Del Sol Bakery: This new family-owned bakery is just a two-minute drive from GBC’s location at the Palm Beach Yacht Center. The menu changes daily, but you’ll always find something to like: ham and cheese croissants, fresh breads, and salted caramel brownies are some of our favorites.
Best take-out near me: Lake Worth
Lilo’s Street Food and Bar: With locations and Lake Worth and Delray Beach, try Lilo’s “montaditos,” like tapas-sized sandwiches filled with lobster salad, goat cheese, and fig jam, or seared steak. Fresh chips and guacamole will definitely hit the spot once you’re cruising.
Tacos al Carbon: Well, maybe they’re not the best picnic food, but tasty tacos are surprisingly hard to find in South Florida, so order up some from the restaurant itself or for delivery from the Lake Worth Delivery Dudes!
Gulfstream Boat Club: we’re experts not only on Palm Beach County fishing and boating, but eating as well. Give us a call at 561.865.7797 and we’ll help get you started with all three!

Only a few boats left in our Delray GBC location for fireworks viewing; call 561.865.7797 to book. Happy Fourth!
The Key West 24-foot center console is one of our favorite boats—so that’s why we have added a new one to the Gulfstream Boat Club fleet!
Boattest.com says, “The Key West 239FS is the answer to the question of whether a boat can fish hard on Saturday and then capture family fun on the water on Sunday.”
The latest introduction to Key West’s Family Sportsman series, the roomy 239FS offers the largest cockpit in its class and loaded with features for both cruising comfort and serious fishing for South Florida anglers!
If you’re interested in docking at lunch at the Old Key Lime House or a fishing charter on the Intracoastal up to Lake Worth, this boat is for you.
The full-width bench seat in the rear is great for a relaxing day on the water with family and friends; it seats up to five comfortably, and a molded swim platform with a stainless-steel ladder makes a quick dip in the water simple.
A stereo, depth finder, and partial shade add extra ease as well.
Fishing features include a live well, rod storage racks, trolling rod holders, and even an insulated, macerated under-floor fish box up front.
The sturdy Key West guarantees a comfortable ride whether you’re cruising or out on the seas.
Boating is our passion; make it yours.
Consult our Excursion Guide, or call us to custom design your perfect day on the water.
Gulfstream Boat Club’s fleet is the newest and best maintained in Palm Beach County, and our licensed captains can show you the best fishing spots or create a fun day on the water for boaters of all ages.
Located at the Boca Inlet, a nice cruise from GBC’s Delray location, Waterstone Resort & Marina offers guests and locals Boca’s only “on-the-water” dining experience.
Choose from two restaurant options: casual poolside dining at Waterstone Rum Bar & Grill; or Boca Landing Restaurant, an upscale “on-the water” dining experience, highlighting prime seafood and crafted cocktails.
Delray Beach’s public dock at 802 NE First Street can accommodate a few smaller boats and is easy walking distance from Atlantic Avenue’s shops and restaurants.
The dock is currently closed due to damage from last year’s king tides, but for the moment, these two restaurants are more than happy to accommodate you and your GBC boat.
Prime Catch is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week and features fresh fish, lobster, seafood, and steak. With a wine cellar of more than 3,000 bottles, you’ll certainly find a wine (or two) with which to toast your fellow boaters!
We’re partial to Two Georges, as GBC’s Boynton location is adjacent to the restaurant. Take a fishing charter out in the morning and return to a fun and relaxing meal at this waterfront restaurant, lounge, and sports bar.
Just over the Blue Heron Bridge that leads to Singer Island, Sailfish Marina is a Florida favorite. On Thursdays, the restaurant attracts crowds along the nearby docks with live music, food, arts and crafts, and a beautiful view.
Leave from GBC’s Lantana location for a cruise up to Jupiter. The Jupiter Inlet Marina offers several slips for parking, and U-Tiki offers delicious food, a sushi menu, and memorable views of the Jupiter Lighthouse.
Boating is our passion. Make it yours. Call Gulfstream Boat Club at 561.865.7797 to schedule a boat; we’ll even make your dining reservation!
