Boat Club FAQs

What is a Boat Club and how does it work?
Whether you’re interested in cruising or fishing or both, this boat club’s for you.

The Boat Club Concept Explained.

The boat club concept is simple and also brilliant. Why own a boat? South Florida’s recent hurricanes gave boat owners even more reasons to sell their motorboats and join Gulfstream Boat Club. No more worries about docking your boat in a storm, expensive repairs, or unused dock rentals. GBC takes care of everything. You just book the boat of your choice and enjoy!

If you are interested in becoming a member of a South Florida boat club, look no further. Based in Delray Beach, Gulfstream Boat Club has the fastest-growing fleet of cruising and fishing boats in the Palm Beach County area and beyond. Our boat family prides itself on excellent service and safety. Whether you are planning a sunset cruise, ocean fishing, or a family waterskiing trip on the Intracoastal, GBC makes it simple and easy.

Any questions about the club, besides “Where do I sign”?

Where are you located?

Gulfstream Boat Club’s main location is on the Intracoastal at Marina Delray in Delray Beach. We also feature two other locations in Boynton Beach: near the popular Two Georges Restaurant, and at Palm Beach Yacht Club. These locations make it easy for our members to travel by boat south to Boca Raton, or as far north as Jupiter, depending on their plans.

What kind of boats do you have?

Our boat club has more than 20 premier cruising and fishing boats, and we’re always adding to the fleet. We have center console, dual console, and deck boats available in several sizes, from such manufacturers as SouthWind, Intrepid, Key West, and Contender. Our boats feature high-power engines, ample shade, stereos, and comfortable seating. For specific information on our fleet, click here.

What services does Gulfstream Boat Club offer?

We are South Florida’s most respected boat club. We have several licensed captains for charters; dream up an excursion and we can make it happen! Some of our most popular services are sunset cruises, fishing charters (fully rigged with gear), wakeboarding and waterskiing lessons, and providing bait and ice and/or catered meals.

Are the boats safe?

Safety is our first priority at Gulfstream Boat Club. Each new member receives a lesson in boat operation and safety. We maintain our boats and equipment to the highest standard. Boating Life jackets are on board in a variety of sizes. Maps and charts are also provided.

What sort of club memberships do you offer?

Gulfstream Boat Club offers a variety of flexible memberships to suit your needs. Purchase an hourly membership in increments of 20, 35, or 50 hours. Annual memberships offer the best value; and we have a six-month membership as well. Every membership includes access to fishing gear, wakeboards, waterskis, and snorkel gear, as well as other perks. See membership details here.

And now, back to our most Frequently Asked Question:

I want to be part of the Boat Club Family, where do I sign?

We thought you’d never ask! Gulfstream Boat Club is open seven days a week. Stop by our Delray Beach location, or give us a call at 561.865.7797 to learn more.

You haven’t experienced the best of South Florida until you’ve been out cruising or fishing on a boat. The best way to get there is to become a Gulfstream Boat Club member. Boating is our passion; make it yours! Contact us at 561.865.7797 today.

5 Fishing Date Ideas for Valentine’s Day

5 Fishing Date Ideas

Best Date Ideas… On the Water.

Looking for some Date Ideas? The weather is perfect in South Florida right now; so how about a unique and unforgettable fishing date for Valentine’s Day? Forget a stuffy restaurant or a dark movie theater. Fishing dates allow you to share your love of the water with your partner, and show them Delray Beach from a new perspective. Plus, you get to show off your fishing smarts!
According to a survey of the one-third of couples who have never been fishing or boating on a date, sixty percent of women and fifty percent of men would be interested in giving it a try. So let’s get this party started.
Need some help coming up with fishing date ideas? Gulfstream Boat Club has put our own Intracoastal spin on some tips from TakeMeFishing.org; and we’ve even got an indoor suggestion if the weather’s not great!

 1. Fishing Cruise Date Idea

Let GBC help you plan a day trip to Boca or Jupiter, or closer to home in Delray Beach, Palm Beach, or Boynton Beach. How about a cruise from our Delray Beach location to one of the fishing spots around the Boynton Inlet? We can help out with providing a bottle of champagne, ice, or ideas on where to grab a delicious picnic lunch. If you’re in the mood for someone else to do the work, take the boat to a dockside restaurant like Deck 84, Old Key Lime House, or Seasons 52. (For our full list of fave dockside restaurants, click here!)

2. Take a fishing lesson together.

Our captains are all expert licensed fishermen, and a couples lesson is a great way to have some laughs and learn a new skill. With their knowledge of Palm Beach County’s best fishing spots, your captain will do his best to assure that you don’t come home empty handed.

3. Enjoy a fun day trip to Miami.

The Miami International Boat Show takes place over Valentine’s Day weekend at the Miami Marine Stadium Park and Basin (February 15 through February 19). Lots of GBC’s boat manufacturers have their latest models on display.

4. Fish Cooking Date.

Weather’s not cooperating? How about a fish cooking date? With classes like Sushi 101 and Great Seafood at Home, Publix’s Aprons Cooking School in Boca is a great place to start! They’ve got frequent classes seven days a week, and the chefs make it lively, informative, and delicious. A great Date Idea

5. Gulfstream Boat Club Gift Certificate.

If you like any of these Date ideas but you’re not sure what to plan or when to plan it, how about a Gulfstream Boat Club gift certificate as the ultimate out-of-the-box Valentine’s Day gift? Our gift certificates are available in any denomination, and can used at our Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, and South Palm Beach locations.

To us, there’s no better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than on the water, with your loved one holding one hand and a fishing rod in the other. Learn more about fishing dates at Gulfstream Boat Club at 561.865.7797.

Children’s Life Jackets and Other Boating Safety Tips

Each GBC boat is loaded with children's life jackets—use them while doing water sports as well!
Each GBC boat is loaded with children’s life jackets—use them while doing water sports as well!

Children’s life jackets are a must in terms of boat safety.

There’s also a lot more that Gulfstream Boat Club offers to keep your family safe on a boating trip or fishing cruise.

Every new GBC member receives a free boating orientation. We’ll show you how to operate a boat, the features of each model, and of course where the adults and children’s life jackets are located. We require that children under the age of six wear a life jacket, and we strongly recommend it for older children and adults while on board, or when waterskiing, tubing, or doing other water sports.

Gulfstream Boat Club prides itself on keeping our boats expertly maintained and safe; and for you as a member, it’s one of the top benefits. Why own a boat?

Did you know that preventable injuries are the #1 cause of death of kids in the United States? Children’s life jackets are no joke. Here are some other boating safety tips to ensure a safe cruise from Safe Kids Worldwide, a nonprofit organization working to help families and communities keep kids safe from injuries.

Boating Safety Tips

Wear a Life Jacket

• Always have your younger children wear a life jacket while on boats, during water sports, or even on the dock. And make sure the life jacket fits snugly by having the child make a “touchdown” signal by raising both arms straight up. If the life jacket hits a child’s chin or ears, it may be too big or the straps may be too loose.
• According to the U.S. Coast Guard’s Office of Boating Safety, babies should not travel on a boat — including rowboats, kayaks, motorboats, and sailboats — until they are at the appropriate weight to wear an approved personal flotation device (PFD); and no, car seats don’t count.

Keep Little Kids Warm

• Even if it’s a warm, sunny day when you take off on your South Florida cruise, the weather can change quickly.
• And infants and young kids are at a higher risk for hypothermia. If your children seem cold or are shivering, wrap them tightly in a dry blanket or towel.

Teach Your Kids Basic Boating Rules

The basic boat rules should be followed by everyone. Children need to be taught to keep their hands and feet inside the boat at all times, and not run in or around the boat.

Better Safe than Sorry

• A large portion of boating accidents involve alcohol consumption. To protect your safety and loved ones around you, hire a GBC captain if you’re thinking of drinking on the boat. We’re happy to be your designated driver!
• All GBC captains have CPR training. If you’re thinking of taking out a boat without a captain, it’s great to have someone on board who has had CPR training as well. Local hospitals, fire departments and recreation departments offer CPR training.
• All drivers of a GBC boat must be 25 years of age. Florida law states that no one under the age of 14 may operate a personal watercraft at any time. If your teens would like to fish or cruise without you (gasp!), we’ll provide a fun and responsible captain to safely drive the boat. Oh, and Children’s life jackets are free!

Have you been a GBC member for a while, and would like a refresher course on our boats and boat safety? Or would you like a family member or two to have one as well? Just give us a call at GBC at 561.865.7797 to schedule!

Gulfstream Boat Club encourages you to become a part of the organization Catch a Florida Memory.

Ready for a fishing challenge? Check out Catch a Florida Memory's many programs!
Ready for a fishing challenge? Check out Catch a Florida Memory’s many programs!

Sponsored by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, this organization encourages anglers to take part in Saltwater Angler Recognition programs such as its Grand Slams, Life List, and Saltwater Reel Big Fish. Their mission is to recognize fishing skills and encourage both young and old to target multiple species of fish, not just the most common ones.  Learn more below.

Have fun while doing right by Florida’s fish and natural environment: that is the message of Catch a Florida Memory’s four goals:

  1. Encourage anglers to target a diversity of species
  2. Expand fishing experience for seasoned anglers
  3. Cultivate an interest in saltwater fishing
  4. Strengthen marine fisheries conservation ethics

Whatever your interests, Catch a Florida Memory has a program for you. Submit a photo of you with your catch, and you’ll gain well-won recognition, even prizes, for doing so! You’re encouraged to release catches alive. These programs include:

The Saltwater Fish Life List

Enter this challenge to catch at least 10 of Florida’s 71 different species of saltwater fish. Catch 10, 30, 50, or the whole list, and you’ll win recognition and a prize!

Each time an angler submits a valid application for a Saltwater Life List Fish Club, they will receive a certificate of accomplishment, various prizes, FWC saltwater publications, and will become a member of the corresponding Life List Fish Club. Print your own Life List, and start keeping track of your progress today!

Saltwater Grand Slams

Up for a time-sensitive challenge? Try one of the organization’s Saltwater Grand Slams. Grand Slams challenge anglers to catch three specified fish species in a 24-hour period. The nine Grand Slams include: “Inshore Grand Slam” (red drum, spotted sea trout, flounder) and “Family Grand Slam” (any three fish in the same scientific family, e.g., black grouper, red grouper, gag). See the full list of Grand Slams here. The program includes a “Small Fry Slam” for children age 15 and under.

Saltwater Reel Big Fish

The Saltwater Reel Big Fish program recognizes anglers for extra-large catches of the 30 different saltwater species listed here. Fish must reach or exceed the qualifying length listed for adults (age 16 and older) and youth (under age 16). The catch must be photographed over a qualifying measuring device, as well as in a photo with the angler who is applying for recognition.

FWC encourages responsible angling. Remember proper catch-and-release techniques when fishing. You do not have to be a Florida resident to participate, as long as you are legally fishing in Florida (fishing with a licensed GBC captain qualifies!).

All of Gulfstream Boat Club’s captains are licensed fishermen, and would love to help you started with Catch a Florida Memory from any of our locations in Palm Beach County. Call us at 561.865.7797 to get started!
